These contests are being held to promote the mission of Food Day Omaha: to promote locally sourced healthy and affordable food that takes into consideration people, animals and our environment.
High School Recipe Contest

About
The First annual Food Day Omaha High School Recipe Contest seeks to promote our mission through engaging local high school students in creating healthy recipes, using local ingredients. Entries are to promote Food Day Omaha's mission of locally sourced healthy and affordable food with respect to people, animals and our environment.

Guidelines:
Recipe contest is open to all high school students in any Omaha/Council Bluffs and surrounding area districts. One recipe entry is allowed per student.

Recipes must be in one of the following categories:
  • Appetizer/small plate
  • Soup/Salad
  • Entree/Pizza
  • Dessert
Recipes must use local seasonal ingredients (based on the fall season during the actual Food Day event on October 6th). Recipes should be budget friendly and use generally accessible ingredients. Recipes should not use any specialized equipment. Entry must include photo of dish prepared by the student according to the recipe in the entry.

Winners:
3 winning students will be announced at the Food Day Omaha event on October 6th and have their recipes featured as a special at one of 3 local restaurants - Dante, Stirnella or Block 16. 

Our judging panel will consist of local area chefs and will be decided on, but not limited to how well the entry promotes Omaha Food Day's mission and adheres to the above recipe guidelines.

All contestants and their families will be invited to Food Day Omaha to be held on October 6, 2018 in downtown Omaha. Parents of the winners will be notified by phone and/or email prior to the event.

Children's Drawing/Art Contest

The First Annual Food Day Omaha Children's Art Contest seeks to promote our mission through art created by our youngest healthy promoters. We are accepting drawings this year. Entries are to promote Food Day Omaha's mission of locally sourced healthy and affordable food with respect to people, animals and our environment.

Guidelines:
The drawing contest will have two age group entry levels:
Level 1: Grades Kindergarten to Fifth Grade and Level 2: Grade Sixth to Eighth Grade

Recipe contest is open to all school students in any Omaha/Council Bluffs and surrounding area districts. One entry is allowed per student.

Entries must be on a legal sized piece of paper/canvas. E.g. Crayons, drawing pencils, watercolors, oil paint, acrylic paints, and chalk are all acceptable forms of art medium to be used.

Scenes of families and healthy foods, animals, natural local environments, farming, the food cycle and promotion of a natural environment are all welcome.

Prizes:
Level 1 Prize - A Party Pass to Coco Keys Water Resort (10 individual passes)
Level 2 Prize - A Party Pass to Coco Keys Water Resort (10 individual passes)

Our judging panel will consist of local area school food service staff and Food Day Omaha committee members and will be decided on, but not limited to how well the entry promotes Omaha Food Day's mission, artistic presentation and contestant efforts.

All contestants and their families will be invited to the Food Day Omaha children's booth to be held on October 6, 2018 in downtown Omaha. Parents of the winners will be notified by phone and/or email prior to the event.
