Over the past year, local restaurant owners have done their best to feed the public and keep the community safe during COVID-19.

Starting their restaurant not long before the pandemic hit, Best Burger owners Ashlei Spivey and Universal Allah are no strangers to the difficulties of keeping a restaurant afloat during a public health crisis.

Located in the heart of North Omaha inside Seventy Five North, Best Burger is a family-owned fast casual dining experience, also known as a burger takeout joint. Spivey says she and life partner Universal decided to start their restaurant because they saw a need for a neighborhood establishment that served quality, affordable food made from fresh ingredients.

As long-time residents of North Omaha, Spivey and Universal sought to fill that void, and Best Burger was the result. Over a year later, Spivey says she continues to receive gratification from serving locally grown ingredients.

"Providing an experience is the most important aspect of Best Burger," Spivey says. "We want customers to feel the intention behind how we source the food, the way in which we prepare the ingredients and how we deliver the final product to them."

In addition to serving dine-in and takeout customers, Best Burger offers online ordering and catering for local events. Spivey says the team creates every meal with thought, care and attention to detail.

"From start to finish, our customers will feel the love and thoughtfulness put into the meal because it’s always crafted, never cooked," she says.

While operating during a pandemic has its challenges, Spivey says she is excited for the future of Best Burger.

"We started this venture a year before the pandemic and decided to still move forward because we invested our last in this restaurant," she says. "Despite the pandemic, we have survived and are looking forward to the days when we can thrive."
