Jisa's Farmstead Cheese traces its roots of serving the community back to 1946 when Lad Jisa started a dairy farm outside of Brainard, Nebraska with just a few Holstein cattle. Now owned and operated by Lad's son Dave, the dairy provides the milk for Jisa Cheese, a 6,000-foot cheese plant located a half mile from the farm.
In its tradition of providing for the area, Jisa's Farmstead Cheese was involved with supplying cheese for the USDA Farmers to Families Food Box Program during July and August.
Marketing consultant Rod Johnson says Jisa's worked with community partners to distribute boxes to food banks, pantries and other nonprofit organizations that supply dairy nutrition throughout the region. The team also worked to follow social distancing guidelines and ensure a safe working environment for the employees.
During a time when many companies were cutting down on staff, Johnson says Jisa's added employees to help with cheese production and package the dairy products for delivery. Throughout the project, the team worked hard to provide fresh cheese products and serve the community during difficult times.
