Over the past year, Jodi Cast has taken part in Midwest Dairy's Adopt a Cow program, which allows students to receive a firsthand look at dairy life from the perspective of a local farmer.
With the Adopt a Cow program, classrooms can “adopt” a calf from a dairy farm and watch the cow grow through live video chats, photos, activity sheets, certificates and other learning activities. Cast, who owns and operates JJC Jerseys in Beaver Crossing, Nebraska with her husband and children, has had the opportunity to teach students about the dairy industry through live Zoom chats as part of the program.
"To have kids in classrooms and whoever else be interested in this part of agriculture is just great," Cast says.
