During the COVID-19 pandemic, FarmTable Procurement & Delivery has been working to meet the needs of buyers seeking fresh, locally grown produce.

Established in Harlan, Iowa, FarmTable is a local food hub that works with farmers, grocers, restaurants and consumers to provide healthy, sustainable food to the Omaha and Des Moines areas. Each week, the marketplace offers fresh food produced by local farms and delivers orders in a cost-effective manner.

When COVID-19 began, Omaha and Des Moines sales representative Sherri Lee says FarmTable was unsure how the community would respond to the challenge.

"We were especially concerned with how the pandemic would affect both our farmers and our restaurants," Lee says. "What we learned was that we are fortunate to work with some amazing and resilient people."

Lee says FarmTable has adapted to the pandemic by modifying its delivery format to better serve the community. The team reduced its minimum for free delivery, now making home deliveries free of charge to Omaha, Council Bluffs and Harlan on orders over $125. FarmTable has also extended its open warehouse hours for easy shopping and order pick-up.

Along with its updated hours, Lee says FarmTable has increased its sanitation practices both in the warehouse and at all points of delivery. The team delivers to businesses in the Des Moines and Omaha areas every Thursday.

Despite recent hardships, Lee says the perseverence of the community has been inspiring.

"It has been encouraging to see our long-established customers grow into this new way of doing business and we have thoroughly enjoyed fostering relationships with our many new customers during this season," she says. "Our home delivery service has grown exponentially and we are amazed at how well our grocers and restaurants have risen to meet this challenge."
